What is CMAT?
CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) is a national-level test used for admission to AICTE-approved MBA/PGDM programs across India. It is a single-day, single-session computer-based test covering Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, and General Awareness.
Exam Pattern
CMAT is a timed, single-shift computer-based test with equal-weightage MCQ sections and negative marking for wrong answers. Section-wise time limits and the exact question count vary by year — check the official CMAT (NTA) notification for current details.

Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation
Arithmetic, algebra and DI sets of moderate difficulty relative to CAT.
Logical Reasoning
Analytical and critical reasoning questions, puzzles and arrangements.
Language Comprehension
Reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and verbal reasoning.
General Awareness
Static and current affairs GK, a distinguishing section versus CAT.
Preparation Strategy
CMAT rewards speed and accuracy across a broad, moderate-difficulty syllabus more than deep difficulty on any one section. Build consistent daily current-affairs reading for General Awareness, and use timed sectional practice to make sure no section is left rushed.
Common Preparation Mistakes
- Underestimating CMAT as "easier than CAT" and under-preparing
