TOEFL Preparation
Structured practice for TOEFL's Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing sections.
What is TOEFL?
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), administered by ETS, is one of the most widely accepted English proficiency tests globally, and is especially common for university admissions in the United States. The primary version most candidates take is TOEFL iBT (internet-based test).
Exam Pattern
TOEFL iBT tests Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing in a single computer-delivered session, with a strong emphasis on integrated tasks that combine skills — for example, listening to a lecture and then writing or speaking about it. Scores are reported on a 0–120 scale.
Sections
Reading
Academic passages with comprehension, inference and vocabulary-in-context questions.
Listening
Academic lectures and campus-life conversations followed by comprehension questions.
Speaking
A mix of independent and integrated tasks, some requiring you to summarize reading/listening material.
Writing
An integrated task (combining a reading passage and a lecture) and an independent essay task.
Preparation Strategy
TOEFL's integrated tasks reward strong note-taking as much as raw language skill — practice summarizing short lectures and passages concisely before attempting full integrated Speaking/Writing tasks. Timed, section-wise practice followed by full-length mocks under real test conditions is the most reliable preparation path.
Common Preparation Mistakes
- Weak note-taking during Listening, leading to poor performance on integrated Speaking/Writing tasks
- Treating Speaking tasks as free-form instead of following TOEFL's expected structure
- Not practising typing speed for the Writing section, which is computer-typed under a strict time limit
