PTE Academic Preparation
Structured practice for PTE Academic's Speaking & Writing, Reading and Listening sections.
What is PTE Academic?
PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a fully computer-delivered English proficiency test accepted by universities and governments for study and migration purposes. Unlike IELTS, PTE Academic is entirely machine-scored, including the Speaking section, which many candidates find faster to prepare for in a structured, format-driven way.
Exam Pattern
PTE Academic is delivered in a single sitting on a computer, combining Speaking & Writing, Reading, and Listening into three main parts with a wide variety of question types, each machine-scored. Scores are reported on the Global Scale of English (10–90).
Sections
Speaking & Writing
Read aloud, repeat sentence, describe image, retell lecture, essay writing and summarizing written text.
Reading
Multiple-choice, re-order paragraphs, and fill-in-the-blanks question types.
Listening
Summarize spoken text, fill-in-the-blanks, highlight correct summary, and select-missing-word questions.
Preparation Strategy
Because PTE is machine-scored, format familiarity matters enormously — practice each of its roughly 20 question types individually before attempting full mocks, paying close attention to templates for Describe Image and Retell Lecture, and to pacing since the test allows very little review time per item.
Common Preparation Mistakes
- Not practising the exact PTE question-type templates the AI scoring engine expects
- Speaking too quietly or with long pauses, which the automated scorer penalizes
- Running out of time on Reading's re-order paragraph questions
- Skipping integrated skills practice (e.g. summarizing spoken/written text)
